An unnerving sense of impending despair and fear pervades this album's immense scope. When experienced in sequence from the beginning, one cannot help but feel it. David Brancato
I'm new to Holly Herndon's music,so these are initial observations: her music feels very human although it is laptop generated...about the human condition, about using technology to express humanity (the track 'breathe' is a perfect example). There is a cerebral quality too (I feel a strong sense of composition here:thought-through work where conscious decisions have been made).I don't know why,but her music reminds me a lot of Meredith Monk (not stylistically but in approach, perhaps).I know a new album is imminent,so this represents where Holly Herndon was (not is now) but I think she is in for the long haul and that her musical world will forever advance and bring technology closer to humanity.
